I'm a creative teacher with a passion for technology. I am the go-to expert for technology help in the math department, and I love it. I grew up in Michigan, and have been in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2005, but I still love the snow. I am an avid science-fiction reader, and a tuba player.
I have taught Robotics Lab, Algebra I, Algebra Lab, Integrated Math I, Geometry, Math 2, Math 3 and Statistics. I am part of the C-STEM (Computers, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) grant from UC-Davis that aims to close the math achievement gap by bring programming and robots into core subject classes. I lead teachers in implementing KhanAcademy into Algebra and Geometry instruction and in creating Common Core standards-aligned assessments in Math 1, 2 and 3. I participated in FSUSD's development of Common Core curriculum for High School Math.
Director of Bands
I taught three levels of concert band classes, including Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Bands for grades 6, 7 and 8, which participated in at least 2 concerts a year. I also taught Jazz Band and oversaw the Color Guard and Drumline programs. I worked closely with the Band Booster organization to fundraise and meet a budget of over $50,000 to support the success of the band each year. During this time I used a blog to conduct Band Booster business and outreach to parents.
